2013 Year End

my top 10 albums of the year cuz i got bored last night. Solely hip hop albums no mixtapes

album-artist (explanation) *favorite song

1. yeezus- kanye west (artful, political, cocky, with a hint of ignorance. nuff said) *blood on the leaves

2. nothing was the same- Drake (serenading us with lyrics oozing with emotions. great for a cold lonely night by the fireplace thinking about the past) *Own it

3. my name is my name- Pusha T (straight cocaine! this album literally had me standing on a corner in lewiston with baby powder in my pockets) *King Push

4. because the internet- Childish Gambino ( the wealth of production on this album is amazing goin from smooth R&B to house music to trap music all assisted by witty punchlines) *Life: the biggest troll

5. doris- Earl Sweatshirt (the dark and introspective album is lyrically driven with AMAZING features) *burgundy

6. Magna Carta holy grail- Jay Z (with some of the greatest producers in hip hop assisting, this album will encourage anybody trying to attain their upper middle class dreams #NewRules) *Somewhereinamerica

7. Wolf- Tyler the Creator( amazing imagery and storytelling this album combines the deeply personal with crazy antics balancing the line between the two extremely well) *colossus

8. born sinner- J cole (a very smart album which i originally thought was better than Yeezus for its lyrical content but upon further examination one finds that Jermaine's lyrics can be cliche/repetitive with lazy hooks which ultimately was the downfall of this album for me. there is very little songs which have hooks which are catchy and force u to listen again) *forbidden fruit

9. the gifted- Wale (this album shows wale playing with his sound musically inventing New Black Soul which is very feel good. sadly this feel good sound takes away from the hunger which made me a HUGE wale fan, however wale does not disappoint on giving us content with great instrumentals however he did not rap like an underdog on this album) *Heaven's Afternoon/ Black Heroes

10. long. live. A$ap- A$ap Rocky ( the GOD of flow delivered a great album with HUGE hits and a monster posse joint. However the backpacker in me is begging Rocky to go deeper and look into himself for inspiration as not many songs were personal or deep) *ghetto Symphony

honorable mentions- trap lord- A$asp Ferg (shabba!) hall of fame- Big Sean (growth as an artist however needs to refine)
