The Maybach Music Series Ranked
7) Maybach Music 2.5- Listen
The first time Push was left off of the series and Wayne remained. This is the only “.5” of the series and sits in a weird position as having the same beat as 2. This seems less like an official part of the series and more like Ross wanted a King Push feature but couldn’t put him on the song with Wayne- a consolation of sorts.
6) Maybach Music V- Listen
I was surprised to see a Dej Loaf featured on this as its usually reserved for Titan’s only. But I could not think of anybody who fit this track better. Ross talking about cocaine and the love of his life at the same time is something I didn’t know I needed. This is also the only track in the series not credited to the Justice League.
5) Maybach Music VI-Listen
Placing this was difficult. I didn’t know whether to dock it points for the Push/Wayne mishap or give Ross his flowers for pulling it because it would reignite beef between his friends. It’s a great song and John Legend was doing his finest crooning over the track, but Push had the best verse and it was left off.
4) Maybach Music IV-Listen
In such a feature heavy series Ross steps out to show that he can hold it down on his own. Ne-yo sounds amazing on the hook, the Justice League packs so much into this song with several beat changes and added musical elements that they should be a featured artist, and don’t forget LA Reid speaking at the end.
3) Maybach Music I- Listen
This is how you start a series… with a Hov feature. You can hear the youth in Ross’ voice looking back, but for him to handle himself this well on a track featuring Jay-Z on Renzel’s Sophomore album is a crazy stat
2) Maybach Music II- Listen
This is the Maybach music of my childhood. The combination of Wayne, Ye and T-Pain on a hook was an undefeated strategy. Add Ross and Justice League production and you have an amazing song that sounds like its era but somehow also timeless
1) Maybach Music III- Listen
This song sounds like wealth and luxury which is the point of the Maybach Music series. Amazing features, an amazing beat change, and Erykah Badu on the hook just takes this song to another level. It’s also on the album that most have dubbed a modern classic.
