As millennials growing up in the 2000’s we experienced our fair share of problematic R&B, but herein we have compiled some of our favorite consent centered songs (Fair warning- if you weren’t at a Chicago juke party in 2007 these not gone hit the same).

4) Say Yes- Floetry Listen

You couldn’t tell me we wasn’t grown and sexy when this came out (we were 9). This is a classic, but this didn’t ring off in westside basements. It definitely rung off in some bed rooms though.

3) Say It-Ne-Yo Listen

This was actually on my “Mr. Nasty Time” playlist when I was 16 (although no “Mr. Nasty Time” was had). This is hip roll in the mirror music and is proof that consent is sexy, especially with the way the song builds to a crescendo. It also emphasizes consent the most.

2) Say It- T-pain Listen

Vintage Teddy Pain. If you don’t tick to this beat you must not have a heart beat. This is truly a sexy sing-along: “And I’ma have you feeling so HiiiAYYYYiiiAYYYiiigh”

1) Say Yes- Lil Corey Listen

You gotta hit the first high note and tell some one you gone lay them down, take they panties off and possibly kiss them soft. You may have had to experience this at a juke party and witness a 16 year old GD hip roll in someone’s parent’s basement to truly appreciate this. However, to this day Jam will still get in her bag to this song. Even the guitar is sexy!
